7 Questions with Margaret Glaspy:
Do you have any hobbies?
I keep my hands busy at home when I have the time - occasional blockprinting, knitting, collage, etc. I love tedious things that require lots of quiet attention. Korean takes up a tiny bit of everyday as well, although that is less of a hobby and more of a life journey. I also love to run! I run around NY every morning and get so giddy about life.
What got you interested in being a professional musician?
The music alone keeps me pretty interested. I suppose I keep turning over lots of rocks to see whats underneath and every time I get more intrigued. Contributing to the bigger picture is a big interest of mine and music seems to be an avenue to do so.
Do you have any pets?
I don\'t have a single pet and probably wont for a while. Cats weird me out, but I would dig having a hound dog on my porch in the country when I\'m a little older. I\'d call him Montel and we\'d hunt for pretend.
Who are some of your favorite artists to listen to?
Jeff Buckley, Omou Sangare, Nina Simone, Feist, Joni Mitchell, Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, Wilco, Michael Jackson, D\'Angelo, Randy Newman, Karen Dalton, J Dilla, The Louvin Brothers, Amy Winehouse, Bob Marley, so much more.
Who is your dream artist to perform with?
I\'m hoping to meet and make music with Feist at some point. I love the way she feels and makes music and the people she surrounds herself with. If Wilco ever wanted a girl in the band, I would die to do that as well. I think Ween would be an amazing group to play with and I would have given a whole lot to be one of Bob Marley\'s backup singers. Would love to use my voice to create textures for Aphex Twin.
What producer would you wish to work with? And why?
I kind of adore Chilly Gonzales, Renaud Letang, Mocky, and Ben Mink for amplifying Feist in the way that they have. I\'d like to see what I could make with that crew at some point in my life. Also, I think that Gabriel Roth is the man. I love how he takes gear that is minimal and unexpected and makes it all about placement and sound. Jeremy Most is also so wonderful and I love all the subtleties in Emily King\'s newest record.
Where do you get the inspirations for your songs?
Any old place.
