As a fairly young band, Underwater Country Club has great potential to become a serious player in the indie music scene. The band's influences include: Smashing Pumpkins, Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, and the Smiths.
UWCC was founded by singer song-writer brothers Andrew and Skip Robinson. The brothers each play several instruments and frequently switch the mood and flavor of the show by changing instruments and alternating lead vocals. This duo then teamed up with bassist and childhood friend Tom Dalzell. At Fairfield University Andrew worked with string players and sisters Anna and Catherine Wolk (on violin and cello respectively) and invited them to join the band. With two sets of siblings on stage there is a unique connection between the members of UWCC. Together they form a close knit band with a quirky dynamic reminiscent of those portrayed in campy eighties films. Each member brings their own passion and skill to the project that combines into the energetic and instrumental music UWCC is becoming known for.
2010 was a busy year for UWCC, playing packed clubs on the Jersey shore and showing a strong festival line-up including Clam Jam (Fairfield, CT), Schuyler Festival (Watkins Glen, NY), Cornwall-on-Hudson Riverfest (Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY) and the Cambridge River Festival (Cambridge, MA), to name a few.
Now in 2011, Underwater Country Club is working harder than ever. After the release of Pantones, Underwater Country Club is continuing to tour the New Jersey area, playing festivals and other venues across the state. The band has also played in New York City at bars like Bar East and Arlene's Grocery. Their performance at Arlene's Grocery lead to them being called back for the "Best Of" night. The band is hoping to expand their tour to Connecticut where the Wolk sisters were born and raised.
In 2011 with its second record release Pantones, they follow the success of their debut EP Sexual Attraction, which will now be featured as the title track of the Indie film "The Only Two" being debuted at the 3rd Annual Philadelphia film festival. Ogden Music called Pantones “…the heart of indie-pop…” and states that Pantones is “…2011's big potenital indie break-out album.” Favorites from the Album include Surfing Lessons, Keep Us Inside, and Devil's Swingset.
The band is continually working, on both their music and their following. UWCC is always trying to build its fan base and connect with the fans they already have. Not settling after their newest record release, the band continues to write more songs. The newest music is a bit different. It's less pop, more rock and is designed around the new sound and instrumentation the band has with the addition of strings.
