Silya

“I’m all about energy, soul and contrasts” says Silya, whose music blends the the best of modern pop, soul, funk and rock with her unique powerhouse vocals and quirky lyrical point of view. “I have weird stuff happening to me all the time, in relationships and ,you know, life. So I just write about what I know and make use of all my experiences.” Born and raised in Oslo, Norway Silya was singing in the school choir and playing classical piano from the age of eight. Being a warm blooded Norwegian she was also fascinated with rhythm and latin music. At 15, she started dancing and majored in jazz and contemporary dance at The Oslo National Academy of Art while simultaneously being a member of several street dance companies doing shows for television and stage. “I had the biggest crush on Gene Kelly when I was younger. He made me want to be an entertainer.” Singing in the Rain” is one of my favorite movies. Then I mixed it up by having a minor crush on Method Man. And Wu-Tang made me love hip hop. Ah the crazy contrasts in life!” Silya first found music success as lead singer in the successful groundbreaking Norwegian hip hop/pop group Multicyde. Signed to Warner Music they released 2 albums and had 3 1 hits in Norway between 1999 and 2002. A further crazy contrast of her life, while she was in Multicyde, she was also doing musical theater, performing in shows like Cabaret, Chicago and West Side Story. For the past couple of years, she has been working hard on her songwriting and preparing to launch a solo music career. Fortunate to have attracted a diverse mix of hot producers including Cee Lo (Gnarls Barkley) ,Printz Board (Black Eyed Peas, Macy Gray, Nikka Costa) ,Lester Mendez (Shakira, Nelly Furtado), J.R Rotem(Rihanna), and Mark Hill (Craig David,Artful Dodger), the considerable amount of time she’s also spent in recording studios in New York, Los Angeles, London and Stockholm will hopefully soon be paying off and exposing Silya to a global audience.
