Paul Dempsey is the singer, guitarist and principal songwriter of hugely successful Australian band, Something for Kate. Dempsey has also always played solo shows and toured solo when not busy with Something for Kate as well as producing records for other artists.
In late 2007 Paul began writing his first solo album. It was recorded for the most part in December of 2008 in a secluded studio in New South Wales with engineer, Wayne Connolly (You Am I, Youth Group) and then mixed at the start of 2009 in Los Angeles with Doug Boehm (Elliot Smith, French Kicks).
The first single, Out the Airlock was initially given away as a free download through www.pauldempseymusic.com and then subsequently released exclusively by itunes in May 2009.
The 2nd single, Ramona Was A Waitress was released through itunes on July 3rd and as a CD single in stores on July 24th.
Paul then completed a sold out national solo tour of Australia during which he got himself acquainted with playing the new album tracks live. The album, titled Everything Is True was released on August 14th through EMI Music Australia. The critical response to the album has been overwhelming, garnering 4 and 4 1/2 star reviews from publications ranging from Rolling Stone to The Australian. Everything is True debuted at No.5 on the ARIA chart & No.1 position on the iTunes chart. The album has so far spent 10 weeks in the ARIA chart.
Paul has been nominated for 3 ARIAS (Australian Record Industry Awards) for Best Male Artist, Best Adult Contemporary Album & Producer of the Year as well as A J Award for Australian album of the Year by Triple J. Paul also recently won the Age EG Music Award for Best Male for Everything is True.
iTunes Australia has also named Everything is True as the iTunes Album of the Year. A third single, 'Fast Friends', was released via iTunes on November 20th along with 2 B-sides recorded live and solo acoustic from the iTunes Sydney sessions. Paul and his band completed a sold out national tour in September/October after which Paul completed another tour in solo acoustic mode which took in various regional centers around NSW, VIC & Tasmania in December. Paul played a number of festivals this Summer & in March 2010 he played shows in LA, New York and at SXSW in Austin Texas. The fourth single, Bats was released via iTunes only on February 26th. Paul has nearly concluded his Burning Leaves Tour a national Australian tour for April 2010 and will then head to London, Dublin and Germany for shows followed by a relocation to New York for much of 2010 where he will tour his solo album and begin writing the new Something for Kate album.
