Minnie Dee is a sparkling breathe of fresh air to the recording art industry. Her dynamic melange of influences including Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, and Josephine Baker provide her with style, theatrics, and knack for songwriting are sure to prove entertaining.
Originally from Virginia, Minnie moved to New York City when she was 16 years to become a member of the professional dance company Dance Theatre of Harlem. Her youthful maturity, enduring work ethic, and advanced talents were the embers that will soon ignite her stardom. After many years of touring the world as a ballerina, she returned to New York to study acting. She landed a National Commercial to be directed by Spike Lee, and was able to pay her way through college (Political Science/Film Studies). Her pursuits in acting also lead her to land a role in James Tobak’s film “Black & White.
After college, Minnie caught the bug for the open mic music scene and was spotted by the lead member of the former New York cult band “Mike Sandwich.” They scooped her up and she began performing with the band as their quirky, fluorescently costumed back-up singe. She became quite an icon in the band for several years after. During that time she began picking up the guitar and taking lessons. She played with ease and soon began writing her own songs. Over the years Minnie has compiled quite a collection of soon to be hits songs.
We look forward to Minnie’s debut album “Time to Shine” to be released in November.
