Indie/Punk trio Jon Caspi & The First Gun share the roots of other Asbury Park, NJ notables such as Bruce Springsteen, the Gaslight Anthem, and The Bouncing Souls. They just released The Little Ones with a packed show in Long Branch, NJ in late November, 2011, and quickly showed up on top album of 2011 lists. The album was produced by Pete Steinkopf (guitarist of legendary punk band The Bouncing Souls), and the band just came out with a very rare flexidisk/postcard single. The band is currently recording their next album.
Lead singer Jon Caspi has been a longstanding figure on the U.S. national college radio scene. His latest project is The First Gun and is a return to his indie/punk roots. His music has charted on CMJ Top 100, and has appeared on TV, MTV, in films, and on stage (in musical theater productions). He has performed with Bruce Springsteen and opened for many international acts. In 2011, a book called “Are You Listening” came out with a list of the best 100 albums to be released between 2001-2011. Jon had three albums included in the book, the highest at #19 (his first solo album, This Town. He has been nominated for multiple Asbury Music Awards, has received much critical acclaim, and has even had a sandwich named after him by his hometown diner.
His third solo CD, EDDIE KNOWS! A NOVEL (released in late 2008) is unusual in that it is a "rock novel that tells a complete story with each song a chapter of the tale. The ShowRoom Theater in Asbury Park, NJ invited Jon to stage the album which was done successfully with two sold out shows and a cast of actors, musicians, videographers and others for a very unique multimedia event. In late 2010, JC & TFG released Strange Sitaution, an album influenced by Jon’s adopting a son from Africa, to a sold out audience in Asbury Park. Other notable achievements include Jon's song "Eight Days" being listed as the best Hanukkah song of 2005 by the Boston Herald. He was the only non-major label artist selected on the list of best holiday songs for that year.
