Hawk and Dove

The psychedelic country sound of Hawk and Dove speaks of Abel writing lullabies for Cain, a marriage of fury and beauty where Elijah Miller’s complex lyrics may sink into an unquiet sea of sound.

Elijah Miller left his life as a Union Organizer to follow his passion for music after stumbling upon old friend and guitarist John Kleber in a bar in 2007. John’s guitar screams Elijah’s words through the beauty and hell on the horizon- a relaxing soundtrack for your last day on earth. Having left her jazz piano degree somewhere in the East River, Stephanie Sanders woke up in the summer of 2008 as the heartbeat of Hawk and Dove with a bass guitar in her hands. These three found the anchor for their music in veteran New York drummer and session musician Dave Butler. Together with Sanders, these two meticulously judge when to allow the sound of Hawk and Dove to whisper, scream, melt through the cracks or explode into the clouds. Add to the fray, the lovely violin of classically trained Rachel Lyon and the Hawk and Dove sound is complete.

Hawk and Dove continue to play regularly around New York, in some of the city’s most distinguished venues, from Piano’s and the Cake Shop in Manhattan to Union Hall and The Bell House in Brooklyn. They performed in the 2009 Brooklyn Greenway Initiative benefit, and the Groinstrong 2008 benefit concert. They recently appeared in a television pilot written and produced by the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Sketch group Side Car, set to premier in the summer of 2009 at the New York Television festival. The band finished a three song EP in the winter of 2008/2009 at Tin Can Lab in Brooklyn New York, and will be completing their first full-length album in the Fall of 2009. In August they will be releasing a series of Web only acoustic performances. They are currently working on a rock opera.
