Emily Forst is an indie-pop/soul songwriter along the lines of Adele and Feist.
Her music is the sonic equivalent of a smoky lounge with blue velvet curtains and good stiff whisky. Emily recently finished her debut album, which is awaiting release. She spent over ten years honing her origninal songs and in October, 2011 went into the legendary Avatar Studios to record them. Vocals were tracked at Mission Sound in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. An all-star team of musicians worked over the course of three months to perfect the album (Andrew Meskin, Jonny Blaze, Eddie Jackson, Adam Countryman, Charly Kramsky, Tina Parol, Elaine Casswell- mastering Andy VanDette at MasterDisk).
Emily has a degree in Music Composition and Technology from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, where she studied classical guitar and classical voice. She later continued private classical guitar studies with renowed classical guitarist Kevin Gallagher. In early 2011, while living in with her grandmother in upstate New York, Emily bought a used Fender Telecaster guitar, and transitioned from classical to electric guitar.
Born in New York City, and raised in Glendale, Wisconsin- Emily's music is influenced by both the country and the city. She currently lives in NYC, and organizes the NYC Guitar Group, which she founded in early 2009.
