Digney Fignus is a Boston based singer/songwriter. His latest CD, "Talk of the Town," (Oct '08), continues the story of Johnnie Boudreaux, "a man too good lookin' for his own good," first introduced in the critically acclaimed "Trouble on the Levee" (2006) runner up BEST JAM BAND CD in the 2009 Just Plain Folks Awards .
"Talk of the Town" spent three months in the Top 30 on the Americana Music Chart and scored in the Top 20 on the New Music Weekly College Chart and the Far Roots Music Report. It picked up airplay on radio stations all across the USA as well as Europe, and Australia.
"Sounding like Randy Newman in his heyday, Digney wrangles up 12 new songs that bubble with grooves so infectious, you're going to need a good liniment to work them out" - Doug Sloan, Metronome Magazine
KDHX - St. Louis, MO - Letter from the Line (track 8) “A stunning song about a soldier writing home. The lines in the middle about killing a man in the line of duty are absolutely chilling.”
Spinning off a hit video ("Do the Walk") and extensive radio play the CD continues to make news. "Party Down in Hell" was just featured on Jerry Bruckheimer's hit show "Eleventh Hour" on CBS. The song was also selected as a finalist in Mike Pinder's (Moody Blues) SONGWARS Competition. Digney was also invited to play his song "All for Love" (inspired by love tokens left behind by Australia's convict women) at the BLESSING OF THE BONNETS in Melbourne Australia, May 2nd, 2009. The event was organized to honor the 25,000 women and girls transported to Australia in the 1800's and was attended by five generations of their descendants as well as the Irish Ambassador to Australia and other dignitaries.
Writer and storyteller, TALK OF THE TOWN includes a short story, "The Sons of Johnnie Boudreaux", that takes readers and listeners on a twisted journey of murder, mayhem, and revenge. It features many of the characters introduced in TROUBLE ON THE LEVEE. including ex-bootleger and lover Yvonne and ex-wife Sally, now an angry nun with a score to settle.
TALK OF THE TOWN takes place in 1950 New Orleans twenty years after the first story ends. It is a mystery "who done it" with unanswered question left for the reader to solve.
DIGNEY arrived on the Boston music scene in the 80's playing guitar and singing in a three piece Boston punk band called the SPIKES. Scoring on local radio with songs like "Air Raid" and "Summer Vacation", The Spikes did a lot of underground loft shows that eventually got DIGNEY into running one of the first "Punk" night clubs in Boston, ("Streets" voted Boston's number one nightclub of the year by the Boston Phoenix ),
DIGNEY's first big break came when he won the MTV basement tapes with his hit song and video "THE GIRL WITH THE CURIOUS HAND". This led to a follow up release on COLUMBIA RECORDS that DIGNEY co-produced with former CHARTBUSTER and MODERN LOVER, Leroy Radcliffe.
More success came when Digney won the WZLX Boston Anthem contest with his song BOSTON TOWN. The song is featured on the four song CD BOSTON TOWN which received critical acclaim and was nominated for RECORD OF THE YEAR, by the Mass Country Music Awards Association. One of the songs from the CD "End of the Line" won one of the SONG OF THE YEAR awards.
The 2006 CD, TROUBLE ON THE LEVEE was a turning point in Digney's music. It became his first concept CD, linking all the songs together with a short story that took place in 1927 New Orleans.
The CD features performances by legendary drummer Dave Mattacks, (Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull, etc.), and other great musicians including Chris Leadbetter on vocals, mandolin, and slide guitar, Katrin Roush on vocals, Wolf Ginandes on bass, Tom West on piano, Russell Jewell, (Bad Art), on trombone, and Ian Kennedy, (Reverse), on fiddle. TALK OF THE TOWN used this same lineup in 2008.
DIGNEY is currently in preproduction for a new CD expected to be released by the end of 2010.
