Candy John played on most of Donovan's albums from 1966 to 1970, as well as touring with him throughout those magical years. Upon completion of “Open Road,” their last album together, Candy John recorded “Windy Daze” with a group he formed and named (with Donovan's blessing) Open Road.
During those years he sang with “Warm Sounds”, who had two minor English hit singles produced by Cat Stevens' producer Mike Hurst, and recorded with Shawn Phillips, who had played sitar on Donovan's 1966 US Tour. Also did some percussion on the Small Faces' Itchycoo Park Album. And did a short tour as drummer with the short-lived arts/ psychedelic rock band Hapshash and the Coloured Coat
He continues to write and perform his own music as a singer/songwriter/guitarist, and as Musical Director, provided music for an off Broadway politial satire, “The Devil and Walter Cronkite.” His percussion work was featured with Donovan's “Beat Café” concert series at Joe's Pub, with Richard Barone at Joe's Pub and the Marc Bolan 40th Anniversary Tribute in Central Park, and with Denny Laine (Moody Blues and Wings) at the Cutting Room for May Pang's birthday celebration. But most recently he's been working with Richard Barone to record his latest songs which will be featured at upcoming shows.
