Born to an actress mother and musician father, Ariel grew up on and around the stage. Her education in music began with classical violin at the age of five, trombone in elementary school and a rigorous jazz program in her teens.
Following a series of tumultuous years battling chronic illness, Ariel returned to music through the gift of a ukulele. The clear resonant tone of the instrument provided... room for her voice to evolve and she began writing songs that drew on early jazz, folk and rock influences. "Music brought me back into myself at a time when I was falling through darkness. It offered me a way to talk to my demons, turning my experiences into something beautiful to share with others."
In 2009 Ariel recorded a demo of fifteen tracks. The unexpected encouragement received for this rough recording prompted her to release it in full the following year. Shortly after this, Ariel moved from the Canadian west coast to Boston, MA. With a fire in her belly to see how far hers songs could travel she began working with producer Mike Davidson. "Mike did a fantastic job evolving my songs and exploring a fuller sound while maintaining the integrity of my earlier paired down tracks" With the help of Mike and Boston greats Duke Levine, Adam Frederick and Steve Scully, Ariel released her first fully produced EP, Big Spoon, on July 22.
Ariel is currently playing shows in and around the Boston area and preparing to being recording a full length set for release in 2012.
