Angelo Di Loreto

Currently an undergraduate student at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, pianist/composer Angelo Di Loreto is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in jazz performance. A native of Buffalo, New York, Angelo is a student of internationally renowned pianist/composer Ted Rosenthal.

Angelo began his musical studies at age 8 when he began studying classical percussion and rock/jazz drumset. He began studying classical piano at age 12 and that quickly became his passion. Equally skilled in both classical and jazz, Angelo was a 5 year member of the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra (GBYO), performing as principal for both percussion and piano for 4 of those years. During his tenure with the orchestra, Angelo had the honor to perform in legendary venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, and in cities such as Washington, D.C., Boston, Hartford, and Albany for the annual New York State Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration. In January 2006, Angelo's arrangement, A Music Supreme: Reminiscences of John Coltrane for tenor saxophone jazz quartet and orchestra, was premiered at the nationally televised event. The piece subsequently received a 2008 DownBeat Student Music Award for Best Jazz Arrangement. Angelo was also the winner of the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra's 2008 Senior Concerto Competition and performed Alan Hovhaness' Fantasy on Japanese Woodprints for Marimba and Orchestra with the GBYO in February 2008.

Throughout high school, Angelo was concurrently enrolled at the Eastman School of Music's Community Music School in Rochester, New York, a rigorous pre-college program designed for serious music students. It was at Eastman that he was first introduced to the world of jazz piano. There he performed with the Eastman Youth Jazz Orchestra (EYJO) for 3 years, first as the drummer, then as the pianist. In 2006, the EYJO was the Conglomerate Category winner of the Essentially Ellington Competition. Angelo also had the honor to perform 3 times at the Rochester International Jazz Festival with the group. Upon graduating from the pre-college program in 2008, he received a Diploma with Honors and was awarded the Jazz Department Award and a Certificate of Advanced Achievement in Jazz Piano Performance. He studied piano and composition privately with Eastman's Paul Hofmann who says, "Angelo is one of the most talented young jazz pianists I've ever had the privilege of teaching." Also in high school, Angelo performed in the various New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) ensembles, performing piano and timpani at the All-State, Area-All-State and All-County levels. In the summer of 2006, Angelo composed an original jazz composition, "Coincidence", and performed it with legendary saxophonist Bobby Militello at the Buffalo-Niagara Italian Heritage Festival. In the classical realm, Angelo was selected twice to perform at the University at Buffalo’s Honorary Student Piano Recital.

Recently, at Manhattan School of Music, Angelo was chosen to perform in the Chamber Jazz Ensemble, and currently is the pianist/sings in Vocal Jazz Ensemble and is the pianist for the Vocal Combo. He works as an assistant for the Jazz Arts Department under foremost jazz educator and assistant dean Justin Di Cioccio.
