Electro-acoustic musician blends the soulful, feminine vibe of Billie Holiday with the innovative spirit of Imogen Heap. Recently titled the 2011 USA BOSS National Looping Champion and 93.7 WSTW Hometown Heroes 2011 Artist of the Year, Angela Sheik's music bridges the gap between a traditional singer-songwriter and an electronic innovator. She uses a digital loop pedal to layer voice, percussion, autoharp, theremin, flute, and a variety of other instruments to create an inviting, folk-pop sound. Angela breaks all expectations of what a solo performer can accomplish on stage while charming the audience with a smile.
Her passion for music began with an out-of-tune piano and a second hand flute while growing up in a little town outside Buffalo, NY. Later, after years of classical study in flute, piano, and voice, Angela began taking steps away from the role of a traditional performer. She has slowly become what she describes as “an acoustic disc jockey." Now, performing a mix of original and tweaked cover material, she is a riveting and emotionally compelling entertainer. In May 2012 she was chosen as the World Café Live CREAM Standout Performer.
The Angela Sheik experience brings you a full breadth of emotion and expression. About her performances, she says, "I work hard to make each act spell-binding. I want my audience to laugh, nod, remember, forget, dance. I want their eyes to tear up. It’s my goal to explore the beautiful complexities of the human spirit."
"[Angela] writes songs that make your soul crack.” - Caleb Childs, San Diego
"Angela's vocals are truly mesmerizing, the words coming from somewhere
deep, and escaping her body with a breathy soulfulness that connects directly
to the audience." - Sam Yahres, Pittsburgh
Currently, Angela is working on a variety of recording projects, from dance remixes to piano pop, with artists from around the globe. In November 2011 she released an EP, “Songs From The Red Box,” named after her little, red loop station. In March 2012, she released three digital singles and flew to Frankfurt, Germany for her two and a half week, five-country “Come Together” Tour. Angela continues to carefully perfect her craft, collaborate with other musicians, and perform regularly throughout the United States.
