Alfa Garcia

Born in the Philippines and raised in New Jersey, 24-year-old ALFA has come a long way in her young life. The singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist started her musical education as a violinist in the Children’s Orchestra Society of Hiao-Tsiun Ma (Yo-Yo Ma’s father) before teaching herself guitar and releasing her first original EP when she was 15. In the years since, she has played hundreds of venues in North America, appeared on TV and radio, released four records and won fans touched by her unique voice, smart lyrics and catchy melodies.

A graduate of NYU, Alfa honed her talent on the stages of Greenwich Village and Downtown Manhattan, earning comparisons to Regina Spektor, Feist, Gwen Stefani, Billie Holiday and her influences: Fiona Apple, Jewel and Joni Mitchell.

With the release of “Second Skin” in 2009, Alfa won honorable mention from the prestigious New York Songwriters' Circle and the album has since been licensed to MTV. In 2009, she was the Grand Prize winner of Kollaboration acoustic, the annual nation-wide talent competition held in Hollywood's Ford Amphitheatre. She performs solo and with her band, currently consisting of Jon McElroy (bass) and Zach Jones (drums).

Alfa represents what the world loves in their female singer/songwriters: lyrical talent and melodic sensibility. Her words are vulnerable and potent, with melodies that fuse classical music, pop, rock, jazz and Filipino and European folk music.
